Intel Tropfest invites filmmakers to ‘ROCK’ the world’s largest short film festival by entering Intel Tropfest #11, held Sunday February 23, 2003. Each year Intel Tropfest is flooded with suggestions for the next Tropfest Signature Item (TSI). This item must be included in each entry, indicating the film has been made specifically for the Fest. The Tropfest Signature Item (TSI) for 2003 is ‘ROCK’, chosen 'because the word offers a wide range of interpretations, which filmmakers are invited to explore any way they choose.' From 200 audience members in 1993, last year Tropfest screened to a national audience of 118,000 and a record 611 films were entered. In 2003 the anticipated national audience is 150,000. Despite the exponential growth of the festival, the aims of Intel Tropfest remain unchanged: to stimulate short film production, providing filmmakers with the opportunity to showcase their work to as wide an audience as possible. Intel Tropfest maintains year-round operations, supporting emerging filmmakers with their enquiries. Film entry deadline is 5 PM, Thursday January 16, 2003. Industry representatives will choose 16 films to screen at Tropfest Sunday February 23, 2003.
