The Chilean Ministry of Education’s Cultural Division has announced that the project, ‘A Public Stage’, offering cultural and artistic experiences to public sector employees, is to be extended from theatre and cinema, to cover music, as well. Claudio di Girolamo, Chief of the Division of Culture and Director of Pontifical Catholic University of Chile’s Institute of Music, recently signed a protocol agreeing to offer some 300 tickets for the current season of institute concerts at half-price, as part of the program. ‘A public stage’ is aimed at providing a space for employees throughout the nation, and their families, to participate in and enjoy Chile’s cultural offerings – building a bridge that is seen as being both recreational and educational. ‘When we invoke the name of “culture”, we understand… that it is not simply a product of actions, but also the generator of processes, and this also means, in concrete terms, that this is connected with all the boundaries of human and city life. It entails increasing the volume of knowledge of different kinds, boosting networks and increasing the quality of life and the “matters for discussion” of a nation,’ according to a statement from the Division of Culture.
