The Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras seeks an Orchestra Manager to begin after September 1, 2002. The Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, Inc. (GBYSO) was founded 44 years ago at the Boston University College of Fine Arts and continues to operate in residence there as an independent organization. GBYSO provides outstanding musical and educational opportunities to hundreds of students (ages 7-18) from over 120 communities throughout all six New England states. Each year GBYSO auditions over 650 elementary and secondary students, 85% from public schools, and admits more than 350 into one of four progressively structured orchestras. Mission The Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras provides young musicians up to age 18 with challenging rehearsal, performance, and recording experience in a professional environment while serving the community by encouraging a greater understanding of and participation in music. Position Description The Orchestra Manager is responsible for all operations associated with auditions, rehearsals, performances, and orchestra personnel for GBYSO''s regular season, camp, and tours. The Orchestra Manager oversees a minimum of five Boston University work-study librarians and coordinates the orchestra program with GBYSO''s chamber music program. This is a full-time position with generous benefits. Salary competitive Primary Responsibilities Scheduling, arranging, and executing all production details of the orchestras auditions, rehearsals and performances Acting as liaison between GBYSO s artistic staff, administration and member families Preparing and monitoring the orchestra operations budget ($700,000 on tour years) Contracting services with outside vendors and service providers including concert halls, coaches and free lance musicians as needed Overseeing the GBYSO music library, music purchases/rentals and orchestra librarian staff Maintaining the orchestras registration, recruiting and audition records Overseeing student accounts and student accounts manager Planning international and domestic tour itineraries in conjunction with Executive Director and tour consultants; manage tour operations Plan and manage camp operations including scheduling of dates and locations; negotiating contracts with camp site administration Interview, hire, train and supervise librarian staff (4 part-time work-study employees) and student accounts manager (1 part-time, work-study employee) Requirements Bachelor''s degree required 3-5 years of relevant work experience Exceptional problem solving and organizational skills Highly developed written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills
