The General Director is responsible and accountable for the overall management, staffing, and operations of all departments, working in consultation with the Artistic Director with respect to production and artistic activities. The successful candidate will be a proven leader who combines strong knowledge of, and passion for, opera, music and theater with an outstanding record of success in fund raising, management, finance, and audience development. S/he will have excellent planning, organizational, and communications skills, and the ability to lead the administrative and artistic staff in an environment that fosters creativity, teamwork, mutual respect, and a commitment to excellence in achieving the mission of Glimmerglass Opera. The successful candidate will be an effective and enthusiastic fundraiser with superb public presentation skills. S/he will have successful experience with the design and implementation of annual, endowment, and capital campaigns. S/he will have strong entrepreneurial instincts and will be able to envision new and creative ways to increase the revenue base for Glimmerglass Opera. The successful candidate will be able to move easily between Cooperstown and New York City in recruiting volunteer leadership and financial support for Glimmerglass Opera. The successful candidate will be experienced in working with creative artists at the highest professional level. S/he will be well informed about the national and international opera field in general, and particularly about those companies that share Glimmerglass' interest and commitment to new and seldom-performed work and development of young talent. The successful candidate will be a person of integrity, high energy, and enthusiasm.
