ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AND HUMANITIES

The Department of Education and Humanities seeks an experienced and creative Assistant Director of Education and Humanities to implement new and ongoing program initiatives, develop marketing strategies, and represent the department in the Director's absence. The Assistant Director will report to the Director, Department of Education and Humanities. Specific duties and responsibilities include * Managing E & H marketing initiatives for education, humanities and family events in collaboration with BAM's marketing, design and communications departments. Overseeing content and design of all brochures, ads, flyers, and written programs for productions. * Managing selected educational programs such as the music education program, dance education program (Dancing into the Future), Shakespeare Teaches, DanceAfrica educational program, high school film literacy program (Screening Modern Times), BAMkids film festival, and in-depth school and district partnerships (hiring teaching artists, liaison with schools, overseeing curriculum, budgeting, etc.). * Assisting the Director in writing and editing narratives, proposals, reports and other materials for education and humanities programs. * Representing BAM, along with the Director, in local, state and national arts-in-education programming and advocacy events. Assisting Director as a liaison to community and other arts, educational, and cultural organizations and to school and district administrators. * Overseeing ticketing of on-stage and humanities events through supervision of Program Associate. * Assisting in the development of new initiatives including artist-in-residency programs. * Assisting in the humanities program, which includes attendance at humanities events and acting as representative for BAM with scholars, artists, and humanities program audiences. Requirements: The candidate must have an arts background, teaching experience, exceptional writing and administrative skills, and the ability to work well with a diverse community, from scholars and artists to young children. Computer proficiency in Excel and MS Word for Windows; familiarity with Access and box office ticketing systems is a plus. Masters degree or equivalent experience especially with arts-in-education programs in New York City schools and working with high school teachers, students and administrators preferred.
