The Position The Development Director for the Concert Association of Florida. The position works closely with and reports to the President. Responsible for annual giving, corporate sponsorships, major gifts, capital campaigns, and planned giving. The Concert Association of South Florida The Concert Association of South Florida produces ten to fifteen concerts for audiences in Dade and Broward Counties. Attracting world renowned orchestras, maestros and artists such as the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra, Jahja Ling, and Pavorotti, the Concert Association provides classical concerts at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (2700 seats), the Miami Dade County Auditorium (2500 seats) and from time to time at special venues. Judy Drucker is the President and Founding Artistic Director, bringing the organization to its 35th anniversary year. The Concert Association is governed by a 50-person Board of Directors evenly split between the two counties and by an Executive Committee of 20. The annual budget, depending on the concerts, is approximately $4 million, with ticket sales representing 50% of the cost of putting on the concerts. The full time staff of 11 people works out of offices at 1470 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami. Reporting to the President are the Comptroller, the Development Director, the Grantwriter, and the Operations officer. Responsibilities of the Development Director Primary responsibilities to be performed by the Director of Development with the support of the President and the Grants Director include * Providing support to the President in the annual major gifts program * Developing an independent and parallel annual major gifts program for concert series. * Developing and overseeing Concert Association programs in annual giving, corporate sponsorships, capital campaigns and planned giving and assisting with grant-writing. * Devising and implementing an endowment program for the Association * Working with the President to identify and implement development strategies to participate in the new Miami center for the Performing Arts. * Maintaining strong relationships with corporate sponsors and major donors. * Managing Development staff. * Responding to and managing special projects assigned by the President. Essential Qualifications * A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning * At least three years experience in Development and Fundraising * Experience in working with Board members and community leaders * Excellent networking skills * Excellent oral and written communication skills Desirable Qualifications * Good experience in each of the development areas; annual giving, corporate sponsorships, major gifts, capital campaigns, and planned giving. * Experience working in a small, fast paced environment providing collegial support. * Experience in a multi-cultural and ethnic community. Knowledge * Knowledge of classical and symphonic music * Knowledge of South Florida and the Tri- county area * Knowledge of fundraising challenges of South Florida through the major disciplines especially major gifts and corporate sponsorships * Acquaintance with event and concert production Skills and Abilities * Ability to work with a large Board, corporate executives, foundations and individual major donors * Ability to work effectively in a team approach to fundraising * Ability to work on long term development solutions at the same time as immediate funding needs * Ability to recommend clear options and make effective decisions * Ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts effectively Expectations The Development Director will be expected to * Be persistent, disciplined, creative, enthusiastic and a team player * Be a self-starter, manage his or her own priorities and meet deadlines * Be high energy, dynamic, an independent thinker, but flexible * Relate to people at all levels in many different situations * Be able to work with the President and the Board Compensation Commensurate with experience.
