Renowned UK architect Norman Foster and French film auteur Jean-Luc Godard are both the recipients of Japan Art Association awards. The Praemium Imperiale are annual Arts awards from the Japan Art Association, recognising outstanding global achievement in the Arts. 67 year-old Lord Foster, originally from Manchester, has completed over 100 architecture and product commissions worldwide, including the new Hong Kong airport, the world’s largest construction project. Foster has been the recipient of a number of prizes in his career, including the Auguste Perret Award in July this year from the International Union of Architects. Jean Luc-Godard is to film what Foster is to architecture. One of the most celebrated filmmakers in French history, Godard’s films and regular criticism in the prestigious 'Les cahiers du cinĂ©ma' publication influenced the French New Wave cinema movement of the 1960’s. He is well known for his films, Breathless (a bout de souffle,1959), Contempt (Le Mepris,1963) starring Brigette Bardot, and Alphaville (1965).
