Grant Writer/Development Associate

The American Music Center seeks a full-time Grantwriter/Development Associate to support the Center's overall effort to develop and implement grant strategies that will lead to measurable increases in contributed income from foundation, corporate, and government sources. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity for a high-energy self-starter to learn many aspects of non-profit arts fundraising and some marketing at a mid-sized arts service organization. Exceptional writing skills are a must for this position-all candidates with excellent writing skills are encouraged to apply and will be carefully considered. Responsibilities include PLEASE NOTE Approximately 80% of this position will be spent on grantwriting. * Assistance with drafting grant proposals, reports, support materials, acknowledgement letters, membership appeals, and other correspondence * Coordinate year-round mailings for member and donor campaigns * Track and maintain donor records in spreadsheet and database environments * Conduct prospect research to identify new sources of support from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and individuals * Manage calendar of department activities (proposals, reports, mailings, meetings, etc.) * Event support * General administrative duties (typing, filing, photocopying, data entry, etc.) * Other responsibilities as needed Requirements include * Bachelor's degree * Minimum of 1-2 years demonstrated development/proposal writing experience. * Superior organizational skills, a great capacity for detail, and a keen eye for accuracy. * Minimum of two years administrative experience, preferably in marketing, press/media relations, or promotions * Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituent groups * Excellent interpersonal skills, and strong sense of creativity and initiative * Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously * Excellent computer skills and knowledge of key applications (esp. MSWord, Excel, FileMakerPro, and Access). Starting salary $30K Competitive benefits package Reports to Director of Development Start Date available immediately
