The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) along with other US Federal partners have jointly announced the awarding of US$15,600,000 in Save America’s Treasures (SAT) grants, aimed at preserving and protecting the nation’s cultural heritage. The President’s Committee of the Arts and Humanities (PCAH), the National Park Service (NPS), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administer the grants along with the NEA. Through the Historic Preservation Fund’s SAT program, 80 projects in 36 states of the US, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico will receive funding for critically needed repairs and restorations for threatened historic sites, archives and artefacts. Chairman of the President’s Committee, Adair Margo, has commented that the grants help ensure that the nation’s irreplaceable cultural heritage will be passed on to future generations. 'From monuments to manuscripts, the rich and varied stories of American democracy are being preserved and told,' she commented. Among the new grant recipients is the New York City Ballet, which has received funds to preserve its collection of sets, films, costumes and musical scores. The infamous bus in which Rosa Parks helped inaugurate the American civil rights movement is also to be restored.
