Collaborations between artists and scientists is the focus of a new one-off fund established by Creative New Zealand and the Ministry for Research, Science and Technology. The Smash Palace Collaborations Fund, was established in response to the forum of the same name, which the two organisations hosted in March this year. The forum brought together New Zealand artists and scientists to explore ways of fostering innovation and creativity between the two communities. The $100,000 fund will provide seed funding to support collaborative projects involving NZ scientists, including technologists, and artists, and designers. Chief of Creative New Zealand, Elizabeth Kerr, has commented that the Collaborations Fund is another way in which the two agencies are working together to support artist and scientist partnerships to explore new ideas, processes and techniques. 'We want these collaborations to extend and cross boundaries in ways that haven’t been tried before,' she added.
