The University of Oregon Historic Preservation Program invites applications for the position of Director of Historic Preservation. A dynamic scholar/teacher to build on current program strengths and provide continued leadership to a vibrant and multi-faceted program is sought. The Director of the Historic Preservation Program oversees all aspects of the program's mission and operation. The Director must have a clear sense of the role of this professional program within the School of Architecture and Allied Arts and the university. A strong and active commitment to diversity is required. The Director of the Historic Preservation Program also teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in historic preservation as well as advises graduate and undergraduate students within the program. The Director maintains a research agenda, participates in professional organizations, and serves on school and university committees. The Director is an active participant in School of Architecture and Allied Arts governance. The Director also maintains contacts with the National Park Service and the state historic preservation offices in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California. The Director oversees the continuance and enhancement of field schools in the Pacific Northwest and Italy. Opportunities for research, practice and program development are also available at three historic properties owned by the School of Architecture and Allied Arts in the Portland area. The successful candidate will have an academic and/or professional record of accomplishment commensurate with the academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure. Applications from experienced Assistant Professors will also be considered. Terminal degree in historic preservation or a related field such as architecture, landscape architecture, planning or cultural resources management is required. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of college or university teaching excellence; significant hands-on experience related to historic preservation; active professional service; and strong commitment to scholarly activity and publications. Previous administrative experience and the ability to secure external funds are desirable. Salary is commensurate with background qualifications and experience.
