ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

Founded in 1975, the Association of Hispanic Arts, Inc. (AHA) is thepremiere not-for-profit arts service organization in the United Statesspecifically serving the Latino arts & culture community. Based in NewYork City with a budget of approximately $650,000 and a staff of 6-8employees, AHA''s primary mission is to promote and advance Latino artsand artists through the development of multi-disciplinary programs thatcultivate new audiences and create new professional opportunities for thebroad exposure of Latino culture.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Executive Director is charged with developing a strong, workingrelationship with the board of directors to establish long-term strategicdirection/vision for the organization while working with staff toimplement programs aligned with AHA''s organizational mission. She/heoversees all administrative operations including all aspects offundraising, financial management, personnel, marketing and publicrelations. She/he represents the organization to public and privatesector donors, elected officials, local and national arts organizationsand other community-based organizations.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about and have an understandingof, issues that effect the Latino community both regionally andnationally. In addition, he/she will be experienced in strategicplanning, program analysis and evaluation. The successful candidate willbring the following skills and attributes to the position of ExecutiveDirector

Demonstrated fundraising success with government, foundations, corporateand individual donors.

Financial and/or business management experience at a level comparable toAHA, including budgeting, oversight, and compliance and reportingabilities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to articulatethe AHA story to a variety of audiences and constituencies.

Ability to serve as an effective advocate both in funding and legislativeproceedings.

Ability to supervise staff and maintain a high level of performance byeffectively utilizing the talents of staff.

Ability to conceptualize, communicate and lead the organization toshared visions and new direction, in response to changing communityneeds.

A clear understanding of the role of the board vs. the role of theED/staff, and an appreciation of the synergetic relationship necessarybetween the board and executive director.

Bilingual, English and Spanish language proficiency highly desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Three to five years'' management experience in the not-for-profit sectoror related equivalent preferred.

Bachelor''s degree and/or strong background in Arts, Arts Administrationand related fields a plus.

COMPENSATION

Competitive salary and benefits commensurate to experience.
