Ireland's arts funding down

IFACCA/Artshub,
03 January 2003, Ireland

2003 funding for Ireland's arts organisations may be under threat, according to Arts Council of Ireland Director, Patricia Quinn. The warning comes in light of confirmation in the Irish Government's latest Budget that the council will receive only €44 million grant-in-aid for the year. The figure represents a drop of almost €4 million on last year's funding. Cautioning that the council will now have to review its level of promised financial commitment in 2003, Quinn also noted that funding applications for the year had already reached more than €70 million. Organisations in receipt of three-year grants, she said, may be particularly affected. The arts council is due to meet soon for discussion as to the level of funding for arts organisations in 2003. Results from this meeting will be published online at: www.artscouncil.ie
