Visual Arts Action Research Project
Derbyshire Arts Development Group,
31 January 2003, United Kingdom
This is a one year action research pilot to develop a Derbyshire Visual Arts Exhibition Proposal for what we intend will be a future three-year exhibition development programme for all participating organisations in our evolving membership.
The primary aims are to identify opportunities for the exhibition of visual arts and propose imaginative solutions to the lack of places to show, to consult and involve local communities and individuals in identifying venues and programming potential and to develop new audiences for visual arts from both the local area and as tourists.
The worker will write a final report as an evaluation of the scheme and its
potential for increasing visual arts exhibition venues and extending the
project for future exhibition commissions and site-specific projects. It
should include recommendations for future action and sustainability. This
will be used primarily to seek funding for a 3-year development project. It
will also be used as a tool to advocate for both temporary and permanent
exhibition spaces as well as high quality exhibitions that are original,
challenging and relevant.
It will include:
· information on venues/ sites.
· information on artists in Derbyshire wishing to exhibit or undertake
commissions locally.
· collate information on audience numbers.
· comprehensive feedback from exhibition attenders - including new
audiences.
· a “how-to” report that will form the basis of an exhibition guide for
venues.
Long-term vision: It is envisaged that a proposal for a 3-year project will
come out of the research process and will address some of the following
issues.
