The French Minister for Culture and Communication is reportedly delighted with a recent study compiled with the assistance of music industry professionals. The result of a collaboration between the minister and recording professionals, at both a national and community level, the new study confirms the benefits of aligning France's TVA (a consumption tax) on musical recordings with the reduced tax on books. According to a statement from the French Ministry for Culture and Communication, it is expected that the taxation change will contribute to the continued diversity of musical activity in France. It is also expected that a change would be warmly received by consumers, particularly the young people and those with limited purchasing power. Further to the study, France is in discussion with eight other European Union nations about the possibility of them implementing a similar measure. The issue has raised particular interest in Italy, Greece, Spain, Austria and Belgium. For further information, CLICK HERE.
