Position Summary: Overall P&L and operational responsibilities for all aspects of Frederick P. Rose Hall, reporting directly to the President and CEO of Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC). Rose Hall consists of the performing arts venues of Jazz at Lincoln Center (Rose Theater seating 1220; The Allen Room seating 350-600; and Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola seating 140), the Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame, and the Irene Diamond Educational Center. Rose Hall is currently under construction at Columbus Circle for a September 2004 opening. The primary focus of the Vice President is to create and implement all efforts to insure that Rose Hall is responsibly marketed and operated throughout the year to meet the mission, the vision and the financial goals of Jazz at Lincoln Center. Responsibilities range from implementing the 3 to 5 year strategic plan and meeting the revenue projections, to establishing and managing the day-to-day operations before and beyond opening night. The ideal candidate has demonstrated the skills of communicating at every level of a non-profit performing arts organization; this would include the management and staff of Jazz at Lincoln Center, our Artistic Director, our Donors, Sponsors, Board of Directors and Trustees, as well as Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and its other constituents. This position is one of the visible public leaders of Rose Hall and of Jazz at Lincoln Center. The Vice President must possess solid experience to create and implement the organizational structure and job responsibilities, to establish the operational processes and procedures, and to meet the financial and mission goals that together will establish and maintain Frederick P. Rose Hall as one of the most highly demanded performing venues in New York City and the world. Responsibilities:
  • Manage all fiscal, operational and physical aspects of Frederick P. Rose Hall.
  • Oversee booking and sales operations including rentals to Jazz at Lincoln Center, to Lincoln Center, to Lincoln Center’s constituent organizations and to outside licensees.
  • Negotiation and administration of all union agreements, as necessary, which may include: stage hands, box office, mechanics, engineers, carpenters, electricians, porters, ushers and ticket takers.
  • Develop and maintain all operational procedures and programs including rental agreements, maintenance and cleaning routines, HVAC fan schedules, contractor and vendor agreements, etc.
  • Administer JALC’s constituency agreement with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Administer JALC’s agreement with its condominium association/management.
  • Maintain relationship with Lincoln Center and its constituent organizations.
  • Develop co-production program with outside licensees, as necessary.
  • Prepare and manage the annual Frederick P. Rose Hall budget.
  • Supervise concession and vendor operations.
  • Plan and manage capital project(s) and maintenance programs.
  • Liaise with the building manager for all building provided services, performance schedules, load-in and strike schedules and logistics.
  • Develop and manage Rose Hall staff, whether non-union or union.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years theatre/concert hall management in a major metropolitan market area, including working knowledge of operations & systems, labor, production, sales, marketing and box office issues.
  • Demonstrated and proven fiscal management in a performing arts venue.
  • Strong management and supervisory skills.
  • Leadership experience in creating a team of employees with diverse responsibilities.
  • Computer proficiency including knowledge of the Internet and of performance hall management, box office and booking software.
  • Must be able to multi-task and view the fast-paced environment of a performing arts non-profit organization as an incubator for success.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to shift paradigms.
