The Mexican Council for Arts and Culture has announced moves to combat an influx of foreign merchandise, music and customs from the United States. Mexican Popular Culture Unit Head, Armando Sepulveda said that Mexico would now make moves to strengthen local identity and resist a cultural invasion from neighbouring southern California. The Mexican Cultural Ministry and the Mexican Government plan to increase financial contributions to the Mexican Assistance Program for Municipal and Community Culture, so as to enable it to increase its cultural activities. The unit seeks to find new locations for local craftspeople to display their works and is fighting to establish a national craftsperson’s centre. For more information (in Spanish), CLICK HERE.
