Artists' deduction bill not included in CARE Act

The New York Foundation for the Arts has announced that the House of Representatives version of the artists’ deduction bill was not included in the CARE Act of 2003, when introduced earlier this month. The bill would give US artists, writers, composers and scholars the ability to take a fair-market-value tax deduction for works they donate to an appropriate non-profit institution. Last month, its counterpart in the Senate – the Artist-Museum Partnership Act – was included in the Senate version of the CARE Act. However, according to legislative aide Hugh Hatcher, there is still a chance the bill will be included when the CARE Act goes to the House-Senate conference.
