The City of Tampa is making a major commitment to the development of a world class Cultural Arts District which will bring together arts institutions, riverwalk development, retail establishments and residential housing in the downtown area on both sides of the Hillsborough River and is seeking applications from those with a demonstrated history of success in related projects along with experience in marketing and collaborative programming. The District will include the existing Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, a new School for the Performing Arts, the Tampa Theatre, the new Tampa History Museum, the Tampa Museum of Art, the H. B. Plant Museum, Falk Theatre, the John F. Germany Main Library and the University of Tampa. There will be shaded and widened sidewlaks on Ashley Street, restaurants, galleries, boutiques, new roads and greenspaces that will provide pedestrian-friendly access connecting the District to the Convention Center and the Marriot Hotel. This position, housed within the Economic Development Department of city government, will oversee this bold initiative. The Director will be responsible for developing a long range vision for the cultural arts in Tampa as relates to advancing and serving the community and its economic, educational and cultural growth. Working with City staff, the Director will provide the Mayor with a comprehensive plan for the cultural arts, including formation of a governance structure and processes for the stakeholders of the District. The Director will represent the city in all cultural matters from local to national, serve as the Mayor's liaison to cultural institutions and advise the Mayor on all cultural matters. He/she will coordinate the activities of the Director of the Museum of Art, the Creative Industry Manager and the Manager of the Art in Public Places program. The person filling this position must have the ability to work closely with the Convention and Visitor Bureau to make Tampa a cultural destination and turn the District into an experience environment. In addition to effective communication skills, the successful candidate must possess: * entrepreneurial skills with theability to understand and attract the participation of small businesses; * the creativity and imagination to successfully harness Tampa's diverse and unique cultural, intellectual and geographical assets; * consensus building skills to effectively broker city, corporate and neighborhood participation; * a proven track record in identifying funding opportunities beyond local sources. A Master's degree in Planning, Business, Arts Administration or a related field and five (5) years related experience is required. Preference will be given to applicants with actual experience in the development of a cultural arts district. Salary: $95,116 - 116,833 DOQ
