The Malaysian Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism has urged all programs for the 2003 Ambang Merdeka festival to reflect Malaysia's progress in development and multiculturalism. As a tribute to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohammad, Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen said the one-month festival would be an important time for all state governments, agencies, the private sector and the nation, as a whole, to take part in what is billed to be the biggest and grandest festival held since its inception in 2000. 'We want to see Malaysians of all races and backgrounds in a festive mood and to revel in the fact that a nation of 23 million people can come together to celebrate one single celebration,' said Deputy Minister Dr Ng.
