Five Scottish arts festivals have received a share of £22,000 in the latest round of grants announced by the Scottish Arts Council (SAC). Scottish Arts Council Director, Graham Berry, pointed out that all the events funded included a focus on young people and educational programmes. ‘As well as the tourism benefit, all of these festivals have focused on an educational programme to involve young people in the area,’ he said. ‘We believe that teaching youngsters now about art, in all its forms, will assure a vibrant future for the arts in Scotland.’ The SAC supports the major Edinburgh festivals - the International, Book and Fringe - with combined funding of almost £1.2 million a year. Funding for smaller festivals ranges from £1000 for the Butelive festival on the Isle of Bute, to around £70,000 for the St Magnus Festival in Orkney. Funding for festivals in Scotland through the SAC is in the region of £3 million per year. For further information on the Scottish Arts Council, CLICK HERE
