Europe Minister Dr Denis MacShane will highlight the impact of the European Union Member States on British culture at literature and film events in Cambridge this week. Dr MacShane will take part in a literature debate at Borders Bookstore and launch the Cambridge Film Festival, which focuses on the diversity of Europe’s film culture, on Thursday. According to a statement from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Dr MacShane will highlight the impact of Europe’s culture on Britain’s, pointing out that this could increase as ten new member states are set to join the EU next year. ‘Now more than ever we need to expand our minds and appreciate the contribution our European Neighbours have made to British culture, as we have made to theirs,’ Dr MacShane said. ‘This will mean more diversity, creativity and more proud nations to ensure that the region reaps the full benefits of EU expansion,’ he said.
