Scottish author Jackie Kay is among nine newly appointed advisors, who are specialists in their fields, to lead Arts Council England’s new streamlined advisory system. Kay, who is the Lead Advisor for literature, is joined by Sue Hoyle (Dance), Grahame Morris (Theatre), Tom Barker (Interdisciplinary Arts), John Summers (Music), Robert Cogo-Fawcett (Touring), Alice Rawsthorn (Visual Arts), and Deidre Figueiredo (Diversity). The existing advisory panels for both Capital and Stabilisation, meanwhile will remain in place until the programmes are reviewed. According to Arts Council England, the new advisors will build on the work of the previous national advisory panel, allowing the council to draw on expert advice regionally and nationally. The Lead Advisors will each chair an advisory task group and will have a greater role in the ACE decision-making process at both executive and board level. Peter Hewitt, Chief Executive of ACE, welcomed the appointment of the team of experts. ‘This new way of working with a strengthened role for advisors is very important to Arts Council England,’ he said.
