Filipino artists honoured with National Artist Award

Five notable artists were recently announced the winners of the Phillipines National Artists Awards. Since its inception in 1972, the National Artist Award has been bestowed upon 45 Filipino individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts in the fields of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, literature, film, broadcast arts, architecture and design. The artists achievements are measured in terms of their vision, insight, creativity, imagination, and technical proficiency in expressing Filipino culture, traditions, history, way of life, and aspirations. The Awards are administered by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and conferred by the Government of the Philippines.
