In June 2004, the non-profit performing arts community of the United States will gather together at the first ever national performing arts convention in Pittsburgh. Participating organisations include: the American Symphony Orchestra League; American Composers Forum; American Music Center; the Association of Performing Arts Presenters; Chorus America; Dance/USA; National Alliance for Musical Theater; OPERA America; and the Theatre Communications Group. Arts administrators, artists, trustees and volunteers, and the public are also invited to participate in convention activities, with as many as 5,000 delegates expected to descend on Pittsburgh. 'It's the perfect moment to band together and spotlight the significance of the performing arts to Americans nationwide,' commented Andrea Snyder, Executive Director of Dance/USA. The joint activities of the convention will feature artists currently working in dance, theatre, and music in America; cross-disciplinary sessions on arts research, governance, and ethics; arts education; audience development; arts journalism; new work development; and performing arts showcases.
