The Economic Impact of the Cultural Sector in Scotland

The Centre for Cultural Policy Research at the University of Glasgow has released The Economic Impact of the Cultural Sector in Scotland, by Stewart Dunlop, Christine Hamilton, Susan Galloway and Adrienne Scullion. The study widens the debate on funding of the arts in Scotland by estimating the amount of economic activity supported by the cultural sector. The report shows that the vast proportion of Scottish Arts Council funding provided to Scottish arts organisations stays in Scotland, supports local artists and creates activity in industries that supply the arts sector in Scotland. The research applies a quantitative analytical framework to develop the impact estimates. The study involved surveying both arts organisations - defined as Scottish Arts Council core funded organisations - and museums and galleries.
