The Scotland Cultural Profile

Visiting Arts,
01 January 2004, United Kingdom

The Scotland Cultural Profile has been created by Visiting Arts over the last year with funding from the Scottish Executive, and the support of the British Council Scotland. It contains just over 1100 detailed directory style entries, 2500 web pages of information and the total text comprises 260,000 words. The editors are Sue Wilson and Fiona Pilgrim. Adam Jeanes is the Project Manager in London and Tim Doling is the Managing Editor. The primary aim of the Scotland Cultural Profile is to promote Scotland’s arts, culture and heritage at an international level, and to encourage collaborations between Scottish and overseas artists and organisations. Despite the considerable amount of information on the internet on Scotland’s cultural life, there is no tool targeted at the needs of professional international arts people. The Profile is aimed at professional arts and culture people throughout the world including journalists, artists, academics, students, commentators, and the general public both in and outside Scotland. For non-Scotland-based users, the profile provides them with hard-to-find information which is often unpublished and not available on websites in Scotland. For Scottish users, it provides a shop window in which they can put their international credentials and aspirations on display. The publication contains an in-depth survey of the creative industries in Scotland and links to all the major agencies. Further sections will be added in the near future focusing on applied arts, archives, training and research and many others.
