Morrocan Deputy Minister to Spain, Mrs Nouzha Chekrouni, has honed in on bilateral cultural initiatives on a recent visit to Barcelona. The Deputy Minister met with Mr Joan Clos, Mayor of Barcelona, to discuss the creation of a Morocco-Catalan cultural centre that would facilitate cultural exchange and contribute to improving living conditions for Moroccan emigrants. In addition, Mrs Chekrouni spoke with Director of the European Mediterranean Institute, Mr Andreu Claret, about opportunities for bilateral cultural activities during 2004, and the Chairman and Managing Director of the 2004 Barcelona Cultural Forum about Moroccan involvement in the world event. Their talks are a promising sign for cross-cultural dialogue and development in the regions. Before departing, Mrs Chekrouni also visited Catalonia, where she met with key officials to discuss approaches to resolving difficulties within the Moroccan community regarding housing, immigration and civil issues.
