Arts Council Ireland/Sgrîn Cymru Wales,
01 April 2004, Ireland

Findings on the Cultural and Economic Trends of Cinema in Ireland and Wales The Arts Council of Ireland, together with Sgrîn Cymru Wales (the primary organisation for film, television and new media in Wales), have released the report: The Cultural and Economic Trends of Cinema in Ireland and Wales. The study, the most comprehensive to date on the economic and cultural impact of cinema in both Ireland and Wales, was commissioned by both the Arts Council and Sgrîn in July 2003. Funded by both organisations, the study also received match funding from the Ireland/Wales EU Interreg Community Initiative programme. The document, which involved a cinema audit in the two countries, will inform the Council’s and Sgrîn’s cinema exhibition policy and decision-making process. The brief for the audit concentrated on the following areas: standards of technical equipment; quality of buildings; accessibility issues; quality and quantity of programming; staffing; audience levels and development and local authority support and co-operation.
