How To Buy Art

Scottish Arts Council,
07 April 2004, United Kingdom

A new pocket-sized leaflet aimed at giving people the knowledge and confidence to buy art has been published by the Scottish Arts Council to coincide with the Glasgow Art Fair (15-18 April, 2004). The leaflet aims to demystify the process of buying art by giving first-time buyers the confidence to go to a gallery or art fair and choose what they like - thereby broadening the reach of Art in Scotland. Packed with helpful hints on how to get information, where to look for art, and how to budget, the leaflet has useful sections on limited editions, and how to look after your purchase. It also answers many of the questions asked by a first-time buyer, such as why the work is not signed, how you can visit the artist’s studio, and whether it is impolite to ask the gallery if you can pay in instalments. Over 100,000 copies of the free leaflet are being distributed at the Glasgow Art Fair and other arts venues across the country. Extra copies are available from the Scottish Arts Council Help Desk on 0845 603 6000, e-mail [email protected], and downloadable from the link below: How To Buy Art.
