The arts are central to Irish life. Arts Council Ireland is the Government agency with responsibility to promote, develop and stimulate interest in the arts in Ireland. With a budget of more than €50 million in 2004, and a current staff complement of over forty people, the Council is seeking a dynamic creative and enthusiastic Director to help realise the enormous opportunities that lie ahead. Ideally, the individual will have deep knowledge of and wide experience in, the arts, and will work in tandem with the Chair and Council, and in partnership with artists and arts organisations, to facilitate the development of the arts in Ireland. He or she will have an understanding of the role of central and local Government and be capable of leading and challenging a team of highly motivated and dedicated specialist staff. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, preferably in both English and Irish, be innovative and entrepreneurial and have an ability to negotiate, influence and advocate at multiple levels within the arts community, and with associated stakeholders both nationally and internationally. The position requires advanced executive skills. A degree or professional qualification will be an advantage.
