Representatives of Arts Council England joined delegates from sixty organisations to launch a nationwide manifesto for music and education. The music manifesto has been developed by the country’s Department for Education and Skills’ in collaboration with music organisations, arts practitioners and a range of industry bodies including the Musicians Union, the Teacher Training Association, the Specialist Schools Trust, Arts Council England, QCA, Ofsted and Youth Music. The document, launched at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London, maps out shared priorities for the next five years with the aims of identifying and nurturing emerging talent, providing opportunities for those with exceptional talent and developing a worldclass workforce in music education. Strategies to accomplish these goals include a promise to ensure every child in England has the chance of free or cut-price instrument tuition across the next five years. ‘Arts Council England is proud to be a partner in the Music Manifesto. We believe that all young people should have the opportunity to take part in high quality cultural and creative experiences and we’re committed to working with partners across education and the wider cultural sector to make this happen,’ said Peter Hewitt, Chief Executive of Arts Council England.
