The Missouri State Arts Council is seeking an Executive Director. Essential Functions and Responsibilites:
  • Senior position responsible for staff leadership of an arts agency with a long history of activism and innovation.
  • Creatively manage the implementation of the Cultural Trust legislation.
  • Dealing effectively with state and federal funding for the arts.
  • Represent Missouri at regional and national conferences.
  • Work with the Council's assistant director for programs and the Council staff to creatively manage and reinvent the Council's programs in order to ensure that those programs continue to deliver the maximum benefit to the people of Missouri. Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Experience with grants making and technical assistance programs (including stabilisation programs) focusing on the needs of arts organisations.
  • Excellent knowledge of nonprofit management, administrative practices, and outcome measures.
  • Knowledge of federal and state policies, procedures and guidelines related to public funding agencies.
  • Knowledge with computers and their applications, in particular Microsoft Suite software.
  • Experience in development and trust management preferred.
  • Experience with advocacy and the state's legislative process.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and public relations skills.
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically, analytically, and be flexible. Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited, four-year institution with a degree in education administration, business administration, public administration, arts administration or related area required. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Three to five years' management experience required.
