The Director, Arts NT is the principal source of advice to the Executive Director regarding arts related issues. The Director Arts NT is responsible for research, development, management and implementation of policies and programs in pursuit of government objectives. JOB DESCRIPTION Position Number: 2954 Job Title: Director, Arts NT Designation: Executive Officer 1 Work Unit: Arts NT Responsible to: Executive Director Primary Objective: Principal source of advice to the Executive Director and Northern Territory Government regarding arts related issues in the Northern Territory, nationally and internationally. Lead and manage the Arts NT Branch of the Division including the Arts Grants Program. Research, develop, manage and monitor the implementation of Northern Territory Government policies relating to arts development and sector support programs. Develop, implement and monitor community and arts sector communication strategies to promote an awareness of Government policies, priorities and programs and the role and value of the arts. Key Responsibilities: 1. Define relevant Territory, national and international arts related issues to ensure that the Minister, through the Executive Director, is fully and accurately briefed. 2. Identify and recommend strategic opportunities for arts development, including Indigenous arts, in the Northern Territory at the local and national level 3. Directly influence the development of policies and delivery of Government support programs to facilitate and assist sustainable arts development in the Northern Territory to achieve equitable outcomes across art forms, and regions 4. Be accountable to the Executive Director Arts, Museums and Library Services for the efficient operational, financial and staff management of a specialised Branch, including development, implementation and maintenance of budgets and strategic plans. 5. Represent the Department at forums and on Boards/Committees as required; represent the Northern Territory at National forums and, as appropriate, the permanent Standing Committee and working groups of the Cultural Ministers Council. 6. Provide an informed link between arts organisations, individuals and Government. Selection criteria: Essential: 1. Sound knowledge of local, national and international arts-related practices, philosophies, and funding frameworks and issues as they apply in the Northern Territory context 2. Extensive experience in arts administration, general business management, financial and budget management, policy development and implementation 3. Demonstrated ability to analyse and translate broad Government and corporate directions into strategic policies and programs to develop the cultural, social and economic potential of the arts 4. Demonstrated knowledge of best practice management and strategic management principles with a capacity to lead, co-ordinate, develop and motivate individuals and teams with shared goals and commitments 5. Highly development communication and networking skills at Government and community levels Desirable: 1. Sound knowledge of administration of community organisations (financial accountability, board responsibilities, artistic and management practice) and requirements of Government funding 2. Tertiary qualifications in arts administration, business or an arts related discipline 3. Formal management training or qualifications
