Anti-Americanism and Popular Culture

Central European University,
01 January 2005, USA

In a report commissioned by the Center for Policy Studies, Central European University, Toby Miller refutes suggestions that Anti-Americanism is a response to the way Americans are portrayed in popular media. The report emphasises the positive impact US media exports have had in terms of how American's are perceived abroad, and suggests that Anti-Americanism, far from being a response to how American's are perceived culturally, is in fact a reaction to the manner in which that country has asserted itself politically, economically and militarily.
