Arts Council extends bilingual services

Arts Council Ireland has unveiled a new bilingual email newsletter, making it the first state sponsored body to extend its bilingual reach through electronic information delivery. The newsletter, which features topical news and information about the Arts Council, international arts news and news from the arts community, currently reaches over 4,300 subscribers each month. Effectively immediately, readers across the country will have access to the information in English, Irish, or both. Olive Braiden, Chair of the Arts Council said: ’We are pleased that readers of our newsletter now have a choice and can read articles in both languages. As a public body, we are committed to improving our delivery of public services through the Irish language and we hope that in addition to its current readership, many more readers will find the newsletter a new and useful source of information.’ A number of existing Council documents (including the Annual Report, Supports for Artists’ 05, Towards a Policy for the Traditional Arts and a Strategy for the Development of the Arts in the Gaeltacht) are available in both languages. Improved access for the Irish language is part of an Arts Council initiative under the Official Languages Act of 2003. Most Council application forms are now available in Irish and the Council’s Irish version website is currently being updated. For further information, CLICK HERE.
