America Needs a New System for Supporting the Arts

Bill Ivey, former chairman of National Endowment of the Arts, has published a paper in the Chronicle of Higher Education 'to begin a conversation about a new model for building a vibrant arts landscape.'
Ivey suggests that policies which focus solely on the growth and development of the non-profit sector may have created a cultural inbalance.
In this short (9 page) paper he presents his views and some suggestions on how the balance among artistry, the bottom line, and the public interest could be restored.
