Arts Council England has welcomed the publication of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee’s report on theatre. The report recognises the impact theatre has on the economy and on cultural life at the local, regional and national level. The Select Committee heard evidence from the Arts Council but also from a number of theatre organisations across England. Kim Evans, Acting Chief Executive of Arts Council England, said, “We welcome the publication of this report today. The Select Committee has made a number of recommendations that we will be considering in the coming weeks. The report makes an important contribution to our ongoing discussions with the Government on funding for the arts and Arts Council England's role as a Lottery distributor."
