Programme Specialist (Culture)

Under the supervision of the Director of the UNESCO New Delhi Office, the incumbent will carry out a range of duties in the countries of the cluster covered by the New Delhi Office. These will include:
  • Identify, design, conduct and monitor the implementation of programmes and projects in the fields of culture, including the cultural diversity protection – both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, cultural policies for sustainable development, cultural enterprises and copyright, arts, crafts, and design, and the promotion of international legal instruments including World Heritage Convention;
  • Contribute towards the development of national action and sub regional cooperation in the above fields of culture in cooperation with Intergovernmental Organizations, Non-governmental Organizations and civil society organisations; Collect, keep up-to-date, analyse information on the above fields and themes concerned in the New Delhi cluster countries as part of the overall effort to establish a country specific and sub regional data base, as well as for use by Headquarters, contributing to the drawing up of UNESCO country profiles;
  • Contribute to and promote inter-disciplinarity in the multi-sectoral team effort of UNESCO New Delhi, particularly as regards culture and sustainable development;
  • Represent the Secretariat as requested by the Director at meetings held in the UNESCO New Delhi cluster countries;
  • Report regularly and contribute to reporting by the Office on progress of activities for which he/she is in charge. Applicants will possess:
  • An advanced university degree in specialized fields of culture or social sciences or relevant professional experience.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in an international setting.
  • Familiarity with the political and cultural context of the Region.
  • Experience with programme and project management and administration.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other language. The initial appointment, which is for 2 years, includes a probationary period of 12 months, and is renewable, subject to satisfactory service. Worldwide mobility is required as staff members have to serve in other duty stations according to UNESCO’s job rotation policy.
