The ministers of Culture for Spain and Morocco, Carmen Calvo and Mohamed Achaari, have jointly announced a new cultural program entitled “The time of Spain in Morocco and Morocco in Spain 2005”. It is a series of artistic activities that will take place throughout 2005 and are intended to foster a greater mutual understanding of the cultural wealth of both countries. This program is the fruit of the Memorandum signed by both ministers in Rabat in August 2004, through which an agreement of cultural collaboration was established between the two countries for the duration of 2005-2006. One of the key objectives is extending bilateral cooperation by means of achieving a stable and lasting function in cultural matters. The multidisciplinary program brings together a variety of activities in which all the artistic expressions are present. Emphasis will be placed on the common history shared by both countries. A master-class for cultural managers will be a highlight of the celebration of the Euro-Moroccan Cultural Cooperation Seminary (Rabat, 27th June to 1st July). Another highlight is a class on museology and museography and workshops for musical, theatre and plastic arts training aimed at improving understanding of the riches of both countries in the areas of performance arts. The program includes a century of Spanish cinema that can be seen in the Instituto Cervantes in Morocco, as well as dance performed by the National Ballet of Spain, and the music of both countries.
