Arts Councils launch survey of Black and Asian poets

IFACCA/Artshub,
14 June 2005, United Kingdom

London-based Spread the Word literature development agency will conduct the first ever survey into publishing opportunities for Black and Asian poets in the UK. The survey has been commissioned by the Arts Councils of England, Scotland and Wales. The aim is to reach every poet of Black and Asian origin resident in the UK, at whatever stage of their career (whether published or un-published), with a simple 15-minute questionnaire to discover their experiences of trying to get published. Spread the Word’s findings and recommendations for change will be published in a report by all three Arts Councils at the end of 2005. The agency hopes the report will directly influence publishers to improve opportunities and support for Black and Asian poets in the future.
