To promote dance across the nation and beyond, Wales Arts International is collaborating with the dance sector throughout 2005 on a series of encounters between artists and organisations in Wales and their UK and international contemporaries. The first Dance Encounter initiative took place in Cardiff from Thursday 16th June to Saturday 18th June. Almost 40 leading UK and international dance practitioners, choreographers and producers joined their Welsh contemporaries to explore current ideas on practice and dance development, share knowledge and experience, and form new working relationships. The aim during the three days was for attendees to be able to enjoy a series of performance platforms, at some of Wales’ premier venues, showcasing a selection of the exciting contemporary dance produced in Wales. Dance Encounter will be financially supported by Wales Arts International through its programme funds from the Arts Council of Wales, and by Cardiff 2005.
