August was a good month for Spanish filmmakers with the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) announcing significant new funding for a raft of new productions. In the first round of grants in 2005 for previously produced short films, ICAA allocated 297,482 Euros of funding to be shared between 42 films. The list of selected works can be seen (in Spanish), HERE The Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts also awarded grants totalling 6 million Euros to support the production of Spanish feature films. 32 grants were awarded in categories for fiction (15), documentary (14) and animation (3). ICAA announced the awards following a proposal by the government’s Expert Advice Committee for Cinematographic Production Grants. The successful films were chosen for their special characteristics or eminent cultural character, and because they were considered to be difficult to finance.
