The Memory of the World Committee of the Barbados National Commission for UNESCO has organised training for 30 local librarians in digitisation. UNESCO is holding the two one-week workshops for these librarians as a way of ensuring that Barbados’ cultural heritage is preserved. The aim of the workshops is to “sensitise professional librarians and archivists to digitising information”, with the hope that more of the “intangible” culture becomes preserved and accessible to the public. Funding for the program came from UNESCO's Participation Programme, which facilitates local and regional projects with educational, communication, or scientific focus.
