The Irish Arts Council has been pleased to hear that Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O'Donoghue, has given additional funding of €5.23 million to the Arts Council. The Arts Council sought additional funding for the Abbey Theatre, as well as support for its new policies in traditional arts, opera and festivals. O'Donoghue's request comes in response to this. Olive Braiden, Chair of the Arts Council, said: “This money will be used to clear the Abbey’s debt and complete the change programme which the Arts Council initiated at the end of last year. We welcome the Minister’s commitment to the national theatre and his allocation of exceptional resources so that the Arts Council can address the particular needs of the Abbey.” For more information, CLICK HERE.
