Asia Europe Foundation,
24 February 2006, Singapore

The Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF) is spearheading the development of Culture360, a multidisciplinary Asia-Europe cultural information Web-portal. After having embarked on a seven-month feasibility study consisting of research and consultations, ASEF is now coordinating the actual technical development of Culture360. As part of its content development strategy, ASEF is embarking on an Asian Mapping Exercise- essentially a coordinated audit of the cultural resources that already exist in the 13 Asian ASEM¨ states. This information will then be put into a database for the benefit of Culture360's future users. In order to foster a sense of ownership for Culture360 and to capitalise on the knowledge and expertise available in each country, we intend to have one individual from each of the 13 countries carry out the mapping exercise for that country. Mapping is defined here, as the researching and documenting the existing online and offline cultural resources. The expected output of this mapping exercise is a structured gateway that signposts other relevant information sources and websites. The mapping exercise will cover the 13 Asian ASEM countries to varying degrees. They are Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It will focus on the resources within the designated countries pertaining to artist mobility, arts education, arts & cultural research, national cultural policy, international cultural cooperation, cultural foundations, funding agencies as well as arts/cultural venues and exhibition spaces.
