Turning Point - a strategy for the contemporary visual arts in England

Arts Council England,
28 June 2006, United Kingdom

Turning Point is a ten-year strategy for the contemporary visual arts, released by Arts Council England. The long-term strategy was triggered by a major Arts Council review of the sector and has five priorities: audiences, participation and education; support for the artists; innovation and risk; diversity and leadership; and places, spaces, and partnerships. Its key outcomes will be:
  • more opportunities for people to experience and engage with the contemporary visual arts wherever they are in the country;
  • more opportunities for artists to make new work;
  • a stronger culture of innovation and risk;
  • a more diverse contemporary visual arts sector and more diverse audiences and participants;
  • strengthened leadership and a stronger visual arts profession;
  • stronger contemporary visual arts organisations with longer-term planning and less `short-termism’;
  • stronger regional, national, and organisation-to-organisation partnerships; and
  • greater engagement in, and understanding of, contemporary art in its historical and cultural context. To access the strategy online as a series of PDF documents, CLICK HERE.
