The Département des études, de la prospective et des statistiques (DEPS) of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication has recently published a number of reports concerning cultural development at local and regional level. Les dépenses culturelles des collectivités locales en 2002(http://www.culture.gouv.fr/culture/dep/telechrg/stat/nstat21.pdf) is the result of a survey on cultural spending by local authorities with a population of over 10,000 inhabitants, as well as other local and regional authorities, including départements and regional councils. On the other hand, three documents focusing on employment, cultural spending and cultural audiences have been published under the title Observation culturelle en région - they aim to provide regional authorities and the regional delegations of central government with a methodology to collect cultural data at regional scale.
