A new study from the Arts Council of Wales confirms that the arts are playing an increasingly central role in Wales, both from a social and an economic perspective. Titled “The Arts Work 2007”, the study shows a dramatic growth in arts attendance rates and participation over the past decade. Professor Dai Smith, Chairman of The Arts Council of Wales, welcomed the findings. "Sixty years since the founding of The Arts Council of Great Britain, of which The Arts Council of Wales is a direct descendent, this publication provides evidence of how a well supported arts sector can benefit the local economy and also touch the lives of those who take part,” the Chairman said. “Wales has a buoyant arts sector owing to the creativity and diversity of a wide range of skilled artists. The Arts Council of Wales remains committed to ensuring that initiatives are embraced throughout Wales to allow people of all ages to participate and gain valuable benefits."
