The Scottish Arts Council’s Youth Music Initiative has been declared a resounding success. An independent evaluation report conducted by the Centre for Public Policy at Northumbria University concluded that the three-year-old program has done much to promote and sustain young people’s participation in music-making. All children across the country now have access to one year’s free music tuition by the time they reach Primary 6. David McDonald, Youth Music Manager at the Scottish Arts Council, said that report “highlighted the important wider benefits of engaging in music making activities which include increased levels of attainment, confidence, behaviour and concentration and above all has shown how music can provide a fun, valuable learning experience.” “We must now look to the future and take forward the recommendations contained in the report to ensure that children and young people across Scotland continue to have the opportunities to access a wide range of innovative, creative and enjoyable music projects.” For more information, CLICK HERE
